A Night to Forget

Imagine that you are a thane or a member of a thane's family in Hrothgar's court on a night when Grendel attacks. Write a letter to a friend or relative in another country about what happens. You might start by describing the mead-hall during the evening meal; next tell how you feel as you prepare for sleep. Then tell of Grendel's awful attack. How do you escape?
